8 NA Drinks to Pair With Your Favorite Holiday Movies

Posted by Boisson Staff on

From the dystopian crime A Clockwork Orange to the drug-use-glamorizing show Euphoria, there’s no shortage of evidence that movies can have a sinister effect on us, if followed blindly. While festive and comforting Christmas movies generally tend to be on the benign side, there’s still a hidden pitfall any of us could fall into, and that is a plethora of imbibing scenes in them. Watching characters on screen drink and have fun might create a fallacious connection in our mind and prompt us to reach for a glass of Champagne right after setting those resolutions and swearing to cut back on alcohol at least through the end of Dry January. To let you binge watch your favorite Christmas classics without compromising on your wellness goals, we rounded up a list of xmas flicks & NA sips pairings below. Have yourself a very sober Christmas!

Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992) x Thomson & Scott Noughty Alcohol-Free Sparkling Rosé

Kevin and pigeon lady home alone 2

Naughty like Kevin, authentic like the Pigeon Lady, this Noughty alcohol-free sparkling rosé is a refreshing, sustainably sourced presentation of the beloved pink wine. Despite the glamorous look, its weighted bottle doubles as a means of self-defense in case the Wet Bandits make yet another comeback.

Harry Potter And the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) x Bravus Brewing Peanut Butter Beer

Great news: you can still have this beer, even if you never got that letter from Hogwarts. The Bravus's playful take on Belching Beaver's famous Peanut Butter Stout, this decadent beer with tons of peanut butter, hazelnuts, and dark chocolate will turn those wizards green with envy.

A Christmas Carol (2009)  x Hand on Heart – NA Cabernet Sauvignon

christmas carol Jim Carrey 2009

As we know, the lesson to be learned from this adaptation of Dickens’s novel is the importance of being generous and empathetic. Unless we want to follow in the steps of Ebenezer Scrooge, the cold hearted miser who places value only on money and pays a price for that, we should surround ourselves with beacons of light and kindness. The Hand on Heart Non-Alcoholic Cabernet Sauvignon full of mouth-watering rich flavors of grilled herbs, olive leaf, black currants, red raspberry, cola nut, and licorice, will remind us to choose the good and have a heart of gold. Or else the ghosts will pay a visit!

The Princess Switch Trilogy (2018, 2020, 2021) x Caliwater

princess switch Hudgens

The Princess Switch is a lighthearted Netflix romcom, in which a Chicago baker and a soon-to-be princess, both played by Vanessa Hudgens, discover that they look like twins and hatch a Christmastime plan to trade places. In the following part they’re joined by another doppelgänger, played by Vanessa, again. And what drink could be a better match for those three than the NA prickly pear, watermelon, and ginger lime cactus water trio from Caliwater — a brand founded by… Vanessa Hudgens! All three are great, and it’d be tough to pick just one, but luckily, you can enjoy them all at once.

White Christmas (1954) x Boisson Blanc

A signature xmas movie deserves to be paired with a signature beverage. Made in collaboration with one of Germany’s greatest winemakers and our longtime purveyor Leitz, our new signature white wine Boisson Blanc boasts a bright, citric aroma and juiciness that works both as a refreshing apéritif and a worthy accompaniment throughout the meal. Its bright acidity and richness of fruit complements all manner of foods, but especially well it pairs with tempura, aromatic or heat spices, white meat, and of course… White Christmas!

Eyes Wide Shut (1999) x French Bloom 36 Bottle Celebration Bundle

If the modest 30+ guest nocturnal gathering like the one pictured in this erotic thriller looks like your Tuesday, then you’re definitely in need of LOTS of bottles to quench your guests’ thirst. If that is the case, then the French Bloom 36 Bottle Celebration Bundle, which offers three dozen of premium alcohol-free sparkling wines at a 10% discount, might be a right fit for you. Sourced from certified organic vineyards in the South of France, French Bloom pairs the best of French wine with an art de vivre centered around spiritual, emotional, intellectual, and physical balance. Ah, and what is this movie, if not the art de vivre itself?

The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)  x Curious Elixir No. 5

nightmare before Christmas

If you’re already hooked on Netflix's new biggest hit Wednesday, odds are, you’ll want to rewatch all previous Burton’s films as well. The gothic musical The Nightmare Before Christmas is right what you need this time of year, if you’re feeling edgy and are not in the mood for any of the above. The twisted magical fantasy that this movie is will pair perfectly with the dark richness of the smoked cherry chocolate old fashioned cocktail Curious Elixir No. 5.

Bridget Jones’s Diary (2001) x Leitz – Eins Zwei Chardonnay

Bridget Jones’s Diary (2001)

As ‘goblin mode’ has become the Oxford 2022 word of the year, it’s time to admit: we’re all team Bridget. A while ago, her quaffing Chardonnay was linked to a slump in Chardonnay sales, but today, it’s water under the bridge. Make a toast to that with this rich, full-bodied Eins Zwei Chardonnay by Leitz, whose vinous qualities are delicately upheld in a clean, fruit-forward palate and gentle acidity. And remember: if none of your resolutions come true, it’s okay. Because this year, lame is officially the new cool.
